A Quick Summary On Internet Marketing World in 2008

In 2008, a wonderful collection of new communication tools took off, and although they are fantastic resources, and can be great business tools as well, they are seriously wasted if used passively.

Twitter has well and truly arrived and is fast becoming a must-have tool for every blogger, internet marketer and small business owner. While it’s a wonderful way to connect with people, if you aren’t careful, you may lose your best marketing channel.

Facebook is the leading social networking application available today. The generation just below me (the teens and early twenties) are so connected with Facebook, they choose to communicate through it rather than email. Think about that for a moment.

You can’t afford to ignore Facebook, yet like any social network, it takes time to maintain and leverage your profile and networks, so, if you aren’t careful, you may lose your best marketing channel.

These are just two tools, the leading two social media tools in my opinion when it comes to business purposes, that demand your attention. You might also spend time building a stumbleupon profile, or keeping up your Digg time so you sway some power there, or perhaps you have a MySpace profile to upkeep, or maybe video is your thing and you’re actively monitoring all the latest YouTube developments while keeping your own profile fresh with videos.

I haven’t even mentioned reading the leading blogs in your industry and staying up to date with news articles. Thanks to Digg and similar sites you can easily find what the crowd considers the best content, but that only increases the pressure you feel to read it so you don’t become out of touch.

Let’s not forget the oldschool resources that still claim some of your mindshare - books, magazines, trade publications and print newsletters. While “traditional media” face stiff competition from newer forms of information sharing and publishing online, there’s still much value to be found in reading the old fashioned way.

Plus I have launched my E-Book on how to generate more web traffics to your website. It could be your turning key to online money success if you follow it right.

Simply put, in 2008 there were more tools, resources, articles, reports, books and e-book, news feeds, magazines, tweets, and free tips like this blog coming your way. You could have know all these development, but let me remind you don’t get distracted from the all-important action steps you should be taking to build your business.

So as not to be hypocritical, let’s admit that we all contribute to this problem. I’m doing it right now by publishing this article. I will keep posting to this blog for many years to come, with a steady stream of content, that while valuable to some, adds more noise to an already very noisy world wide web. I will release free reports this year, publish videos, blog, tweet, update facebook, upload photos and like any good net-citizen, make comments, post in forums and sent emails.

Cheers!

Make Money Online In Christmas Day

Christmas is coming soon which is dropped on 25th December 2008, do you think to make money online on Christmas Day? I’m thinking about how people can make money online in Christmas Day, I think we can do it in a few different ways.

In every special event, I’d seen many bloggers blog about the event and trying to get some traffics for it. That’s one of the method in driving traffics to your blog, so you have to learn to switch the traffics to money through your blog.

How To Make Money Online In Christmas?

As you know, make money blog niche doesn’t make money from Adsense, but we can make a few dollars in Christmas Day through Adsense and any other advertisements.

1) Google Adsense

Make money online from Adsense in Christmas Day is my first view but I’m no sure whether it really can gain us some clicks. In order to make money online from Adsense, we have to optimize a few keyword that related with Christmas, for example “Christmas Gifts“.

As you know, when Christmas is coming soon, everyone is looking for Christmas gifts. Normally they will search for what to buy, where to buy, and how much to buy in their country. This might be a hot keyword in December.

I’ve gone through to do a survey on the keyword searches in Adword Keyword Tool.

The search result shows that “christmas gift” and “christmas gifts” have the highest search in November which is 368,000 and 550,000. Let say you able to push your blog to the top 10 or 20 with that keyword, how much traffics will you get? Of course, it’s not easy to get into top 10 or 20 in a such short period, it very rely on your search engine optimization skill. It’s not impossible to get maybe 20 or 30 organic traffics for that keyword. When you got that traffics, and not getting any clicks for Adsense, then you have go for other ways to make sure that you can make money online in Christmas Day.

2) Selling Self Christmas Product

I personally think that this might be an interesting way to make money online. You can do something unique to sell in your blog, but make sure it’s Christmas gift but not something that you can buy everyday. Show your creative to the public, think something special and sell it in reasonable price.

I’m thinking to go for this way but I don’t have such times to do something special and.. I don’t have a pair of unique hand to create something like that. If you can do it, create some unique special Christmas gift and sell it on your blog. I’m sure you can make some money from it.

3) Affiliate Program

That’s fine if you don’t know how to create some DIY Christmas gifts, there is many affiliate program in make money online world. Simply search for Online Gift Shop in your country and see whether there is an affiliate program in the online shop. Many online gift shops are selling hot Christmas gifts right now, you can simply sign up with them and start promote their Christmas product on your blog to get some commissions.

If you don’t know how to do some DIY Christmas gifts like me, affiliate program is the only way. I just point out how you can make money online in Christmas Day, but I’m not going to take affiliate program because I don’t like to sell product in my blog. But you can try it because you won’t lose anything else to give it a trial.

4) Private Advertisement

Other than this all, you can also make money online through selling private advertisement. This method has a little bit of challenge because it’s not easy to sell a space on our blog. So far I only able to sell some of my ads space.

In this case, I’m not asking you to create a “Advertise” page, sit down and waiting. In this time, you have to put your effort. You have to search for some of your local Online Gift Shops, ask them whether they want to promote their Christmas Gift on your blog in a lower price. You try to offer them in low price, but ask for many shops. You make little money for 1 ads space, but you sell a lot, get it? That’s not easy to sell your ads space, but as long as you try to ask because make money online with this method is really not that easy.

Conclusion

In this coming Christmas Day, I’m not planning to follow the steps to make money online because I have an important task to be done. It’s because of my girlfriend’s birthday is coming soon too which is at 30th December, I’m going to think something special and unique program for her. Anyway, I will be getting my 4th checks for the campaign and I will be using the money to celebrate a sweet memory birthday with my girlfriend.

So, how do you celebrate your girlfriend/boyfriend’s birthday?

Aweber Announces Dramatic Price Increase

Aweber, the industry leader in Mailing List Management, recently announced a complete redesign and the addition of an impressive Email Analytics package. With those updates came a new pricing model for their services. The topic of that new pricing model came up during my visit of their official site today…

The comments were that Aweber went from $19.95/month to $150/month. Knowing what a hassle it is to move an email list, the assumption was that Aweber would have people trapped into the new pricing model out of fear of losing most of their subscribers in the move.

Being a happy Aweber customer, and it being a service I frequently recommend, I decided I’d better check into it. You’d think I would have already heard about this considering I log in to Aweber several times a week. Ironically the notice & option were there when I logged in today…

Originally the price was $19.95/month for up to 10,000 subscribers. It is now $19/month for up to 500 subscribers. I was paying $29.90/month for my Aweber account, having gone over the 10k limit some time back. With the new pricing model, my account would now cost $149/month instead.

-> See Aweber’s New Pricing Structure

Before you completely freak out, current Aweber customers are not automatically upgraded to the new features and the new pricing structure.

Whew, I’m glad I got in early :DLOL

Seriously though, while I am hearing a lot of buzz about the price increase I havent heard anyone mention the cool new features Aweber rolled out with. The new pricing reflects an entirely new product - and a cool one at that.

The new & improved Aweber offers an extensive Email Analytics package. It will tell you who clicks what, where they go on your website once they click the link in your email, and basically let you micro-segment your list and send laser-targeted messages to individual segments.

New Features include:

  • See exactly when subscribers click on links in your message so you can focus on the right time to send your message.
  • Send a broadcast only to subscribers who didn’t open or click on your previous broadcast.
  • Send an extra bonus offer to people who clicked your last email, but didn’t purchase
  • Track sales revenue generated by each subscriber and send emails directly to your highest-value customers
  • Send related offers to people who clicked in your last email - or each of your past few emails
  • See what pages of your site subscribers go to after they sign up - even if they don’t use an email link to get there
  • Segment your non-responsive subscribers and re-engage them (or if you prefer, remove them from your list)
  • See which subscribers are responding to your campaigns — which messages they’re opening, which links they’re visiting, and where on your website they’re going after clicking through…

That’s a pretty powerful package, and those are just a few of the new features! Basically the new Aweber system lets you tailor your campaigns to segmented groups of subscribers, increasing your conversion rate and lowering your unsubscribe rate. You’ll be able to develop a closer relationship with your subscribers by customizing the messages that they receive.

Only new accounts automatically include all of the Email Web Analytics tools. Again, existing customers have the option to keep their original account & pricing. They still offer a package that is under $20/month. And if you have over 10,000 subscribers and you actually use their email analytics… your Aweber account will be well worth the $149 per month that it costs ;)

The bottom line is that Aweber is going “upscale”. They are keeping their current customers happy, but are targeting a higher end type email marketer with their new system.

I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion…

Writing Content

The entire web is made up of content. There are other elements too of course, links and shopping carts and videos and audio files and yada yada yada. But its the content that gets you there, and its the content that makes you take action (watch, listen, buy).

It might be an email from a friend, a blog post that you read or something that was recommended on your favorite discussion forum. It could have been an article or a search result at Google or Yahoo. But its all content, linking to more content.

Wikipedia defines content as:
Information and experiences created by individuals, institutions and technology to benefit audiences in contexts that they value.

Dictionary.com defines content as:
something that is to be expressed through some medium, as speech, writing, or any of various arts

But Internet Marketers define content as text…

If you have an online business, then you know just how important content is to your overall marketing strategy. There are literally hundreds of guides written on the topic covering a wide range of angles: copywriting, article marketing, syndication, self-publishing, etc etc etc.

But most of these deal with what to do with your content once you write it. Not what you should do if you are staring at a blank piece of paper, or sitting in front of your computer staring at a blank document. If you stare at it long enough it just might transform into a beautifully written masterpiece that funnels traffic into your website. But if it doesnt, read on…

There are two main things that every piece of content you write should contain: value and action. No matter what format you are writing in, or who you are writing to, what you write should be valuable to your reader. It should also lead them to the next step, or include a “call to action”.

Let’s use this blog post as an example. I am sitting in front of my computer right now*, typing out an article titled “Writing Content”… that is, ironically, content I am writing for my blog. It started as an idea and a blank document.

The idea actually came to me when I sat down to publish my newsletter for the week. As I was drafting out the details for that mailing, it occurred to me that writing is probably one of the most difficult tasks most of us face. In fact, not only do I get ‘the block’ sometimes, but its a hot topic at my forum as well.

Idea was born, so I began to pen this article that you are now reading. It is valuable to you because you want to make money (or make more money) online and you know that “Content is King!” (rah!). You are (still) reading this article, relating to what I am saying, and learning both by this example and the tips shared.

I’ll get back to this example in a minute…

Let’s take a look at 4 examples of content that you can use to drive traffic to websites and gain exposure online:

* Articles
A great example of content that provides value and ends with a specific call-to-action is this article by Karon Thackston: How to Write Motivational Copy That Sells. The ideal reader that would find this article valuable, would also be the target market for Karon’s SEO Copywriting Course. The call to action at the end states:

Which words make *your* customers buy? Let Karon show you. Learn to write strategically created copy that hits a nerve and makes the sale. Boost your search engine rankings, too! Learn more here

* Blogs
One example of using blog posts to drive traffic to related sites you own is this recent post of mine: Domain Name Q&A which simply links back to individual threads at my discussion forum. Another example is this post: Making The Leap: From Employee to Entrepreneur, where I end the blog post by inviting them to join my discussion forum:

If you would like my help, and the help of others like me, join us on the eBiz Discussion Forum where you can get advice about business - and get your questions answered - 7 days a week. It’s free to register, and we’d be happy to share resources and give you the answers you need to make the next move!

* Forums
Writing content in discussion forums, specifically for the purpose of driving traffic to your site, can be tricky. You want to use forums more for gaining exposure than direct promotion, obviously, or you will be considered a “spammer” and the strategy will backfire on you.

But if you do provide quality tips and resources at discussion forums in your niche, it will indirectly interest the forum members (and lurkers!) in your Signature and/or Profile.

A bad example of a forum post would be: “Yes, and you can find the answer to that on my website at tryingtopromotemysite.com. A good example is this post at my own forum by Bonnie Lowe: Getting topic ideas for your newsletter. In this post, Bonnie responds to a question with some very valuable tips - ie great content. At the end of her post is a compelling Signature that links to even more great tips from Bonnie!
* Yahoo! Answers
Yahoo! Answers is a site to bookmark. Its fun to ask questions and get feedback from others. But you can also answer questions, and leave a resource link. Overall it is a very active site and great for general market research.

Here is a good example - Y!Q: We are moving to Texas and would like to buy a house. If you have a Texas or Real Estate informational website, and you can answer this ladies question, then you can write up a response (ie quality content) and use a direct link to more info as the resource link.

These are merely examples of how valuable content is to you as a site owner or online professional. If you want to drive traffic to your website, or gain exposure in your niche, publishing content in various places (in addition to your own website) is the best known strategy. Not only does it give you quality inbound links - which is great for your search engine rankings - but it gives you positive exposure to your target market as well.

I will post on next few days about 7 Quick Ideas for Writing GOOD Content! It will include 7 quick-tips for coming up with something to write about, and finding quality topic-starters that will kick-start your session when you sit down to write quality, unique content.

You can lead into any number of things with your content: a page on your site, a related product that you are recommending as an affiliate, one of your own products, Adsense blocks etc. The point is that if your reader enjoys what you have to say on a topic, let them know where they can go next… for more!

Before You Buy Targeted Traffic…

There are a lot of tempting offers around the ‘net to buy targeted traffic or leads for your online business. In fact, I was just looking at one this morning that promised 30,000 unique visitors to your website for under $100…

Even though I have been online long enough to be wary of such companies, I was actually tempted to test this one out. The way that it was worded (ie “contextual advertising”) led me to believe that my links would be placed on relevant sites and that I was paying for actual click-through’s. No pop-up or pop-under or incentive traffic, so it was much like doing a paid link campaign except paying for actual clicks instead of just placement.

The obvious first step, before you place an order for any kind of leads or traffic, is to do a quick search on Google to find any reviews or complaints from past customers. If someone was scammed by a particular company, you’re going to find out. There will be discussions in popular forums, blog posts and reviews with personal experience, etc.

If you do a Google Search and dont find anything negative about the company you want to buy traffic from, your next step is to inquire about it in active discussion forums. Choose a popular online business or marketing forum and simply ask if anyone has personal experience with the company.

The Google Search is usually sufficient in finding the information you are looking for though, and in this case it was. The first two pages of results (20 web pages) were full of complaints and negative experiences with that particular company.

It can be very tempting to buy traffic from a company that promises you thousands of highly targeted visitors. Unfortunately, negative experiences have been associated with these types of offers from day one. More often than not you would be better off saving your $100 for a Google Adwords Campaign, a Blog Review campaign or some other legitimate form of online advertising.
